Work filmed during Artist Residency,
January 2019, Arteles Creative Center, Haukijärvi, Finland

In "Forest Mediation," I immersed myself in the minus twenty-degree temperatures of Finland's snow-bound forests. Over four weeks, I carefully wrapped trees with vivid hazard tape, initially approaching it as a meditative exercise during a residency at Arteles Creative Centre, Haukijärvi; this artistic endeavour soon evolved into a more profound commentary on the accelerated impact of human activities on our environment.
The vibrant hazard tape, standing out starkly against the wintry landscape, symbolised the artificial barriers we construct to shield ourselves from the consequences of our actions. Through this work, I aimed to draw attention to the apathy that often characterises the Anthropocene era, where the urgency of addressing climate change is acknowledged but ultimately deferred. By witnessing the tape-wrapped trees, "Forest Mediation" reminds us of the imperative to confront and mitigate the accelerating degradation caused by human actions.
